What is waxing?
Waxing is a hair-removal technique that pulls hair out from the root.

Waxing can last anywhere from 3-6 weeks and is a very popular form of hair-removal.

What kind of wax does Relax-n-Wax use?

At Relax-n-Wax Studio, we use a combination of strip wax, hard wax and Nufree.

On the bikini area, we ONLY use hard wax and NUFREE. Hard wax is typically

also used for facial waxing and underarm waxing. Strip wax will be used for areas such

as legs, arms, & backs.

What is the difference between soft wax and hard wax?
Strip wax, or "soft wax" is a type of wax that requires a pellon strip to remove the wax and hair.

Soft wax is generally used on flat areas of the body such as the legs and arms. Occasionally

soft wax will be used on the brows or upper lip if the hair in that area is very fine. Permission will always be asked before using the soft wax on the facial or bikini area. Strip-less, or "hard wax" is a type of wax that when applied, hardens on its own. The wax becomes the strip itself

and a pellon strip is not necessary. Hard wax is generally much better for sensitive skin,

and is used on the facial and bikini areas.

Nufree is not a wax is all natural made of soy-based, self-preserving antibacterial/antimicrobial, anhydrous BOTANICAL formula. It contains no wax, no sugar and no honey.

How long do I have to let my hair grow?
We suggest letting your hair grow for at least two weeks time, or at least 1/4 in. thick (1/2 in. preferably). If you have been shaving regularly, it is recommended that you let your hair grow at least 3 weeks to allow all the different layers of hair to come above the surface of the skin.

Should I trim my hair?
No! If your hair needs trimming before a wax, your esthetician will do so. Oftentimes, trimming at home can take too much hair off and the hair is no longer long enough to wax.

Does it hurt?
It depends on your skin type, coarseness of hair, and pain tolerance. For those who are waxing for the first time, yes, it will most likely be uncomfortable. Some areas (ie. bikini & upper lip) hurt more than other areas. Waxing regularly (every 4-6 weeks) will dramatically reduce the discomfort you feel. At Relax-n- Wax Studio, we want to give you the best experience possible. You may also take a pain-reliever before your appointment to minimize pain.

Will waxing make my hair grow back thicker and darker?
Contrary to popular waxing myth, hair does not grow back thicker and darker after being waxed. Waxing actually weakens hair follicles making hair grow back thinner and slower. In fact, many clients will notice that after years of consistent waxing, hair in certain areas does not grow back at all.

Will medication affect waxing?
Yes, it absolutely will. You may NOT be waxed if you are taking any antibiotics, Accutane, Differin, Retin A, or any medication that lists "sun-sensitivity" as a possible symptom. These medications can often thin out and weaken your skin making you more sensitive. You should wait 2-6 weeks depending on how long you have been on the medication before you wax to ensure a safe waxing experience. Additionally, you should not wax if you have had a medical-grade facial or peel within the week before waxing.

Is there a minimum age requirement for waxing at Relax-n- Wax Studio? (With or without parental accompaniment?)

Without parental accompaniment, the minimum age for non-bikini waxing (ie. underarms, brows, legs, etc.) is 16 years old. Bikini waxing cannot be performed on minors (under 18) without parental accompaniment. If a parent accompanies a minor to the studio, there is no minimum age requirement for any waxing service. Parent must review and sign Waxing Consent Form on behalf of minor and be present in the room at all times during the service.

Is Relax-n-Wax Studio child & baby-friendly?

Yes absolutely!

What kind of wax does Relax-n-Wax Studio use for the bikini area?
Relax-n-Wax Studio uses only hard wax and Nufree, for the bikini/brazilian area. Hard wax and Nufree is much more comfortable and painless, and is better for sensitive skin and those prone to ingrown hairs.

I am pregnant, can I still get waxed in my bikini area?

Yes absolutely! Whether you are in early stages of pregnancy or right at your due date, it is safe to wax during pregnancy. If you are in the first or second trimester of your pregnancy, please let your esthetician know so she can use products that do not contain any acids (glycolic, salicylic, etc.). Please also be aware that waxing during pregnancy can be more uncomfortable and painful. Taking a pregnancy-safe pain reliever one hour before waxing can help significantly. We also offer additional pillows for your comfort upon request.

I am on my period, can I still get waxed in my bikini area?
Yes absolutely! If you are on your menstrual cycle, please use a tampon when coming in for your appointment. During your period and the days leading up to your period, waxing may feel more painful. If you are very sensitive to pain, please be sure to schedule your appointment accordingly.

What reaction will I have to brazilian waxing?
Everyone reacts differently to brazilian waxing. It is common for the area to be pink, tender, and bumpy for a couple hours after your waxing appointment. For those who have sensitive skin, it can take up to 24-hours for the redness and tenderness to subside.

How long will a brazilian wax last?
Every person experiences different hair growth rate, but a brazilian wax typically lasts 3-4 weeks. You should experience 1-1.5 weeks of no growth, and 2-3 weeks of very little growth after that. Hair grows back very thin and sparse after waxing, unlike after shaving.

How often should I come in to get my bikini/brazilian wax?
For best hair removal results, we suggest regular waxing. For each person, the time in between waxes may vary. Typically, scheduling your appointment for every 4-6 weeks is best.

Is there anything I should avoid prior to my waxing appointment?

Please avoid sun exposure 24 hours (before and after) your waxing or skin care services.

Limit caffeine intake the day of your appointment as it can stimulate the nervous system and make waxing less comfortable.

Is there anything I should avoid after my wax or skin treatment services?

Stay away from tanning for first 48 hours. If you plan to be out in sun, be sure to apply a sunblock.

Avoid excess heat for 24 hours after wax or skin treatment services. This includes working out as it produces sweat which carries bacteria into the pore and can irritate the skin. Also avoid the sauna, steam room and hot tub for one day following your services.

How long will redness last?

The skin can be slightly pink after waxing. This could last anywhere from 30 minutes to 24 hours, depending on the sensitivity of your skin.

Does waxing cause ingrown hairs?

Some people are more prone to ingrown hairs than others and may get them regardless of what type of depilation method they choose. However, waxing definitely causes less ingrown hairs than other methods of removal. Exfoliating daily and using an ingrown eliminator that contains AHA's an and BHA's can significantly help prevent them.
